Rebuilt, 1911, Bluthner grand piano with a quarter cut, satinwood case with boxwood stringing inlay. Entire cabinet inlaid with swagged bellflowers, secured with bows. Piano has gate legs attached with a cross stretcher. Piano has an eighty-eight note keyboard and a two-pedal lyre. This art cased instrument combines exquisite craftsmanship with restored performance.

Julius Bluthner
Julius Bluthner Pianofortefabrik GmbH, is a piano-manufacturing company in Leipzig, Germany. Julius Bluthner established his workshop in Leipzig, Saxony in 1853. By 1900 Bluthner had become the largest piano maker in Germany, producing some 5,000 instruments annually. Innovations such as the Aliquot string, a fourth string that vibrated sympathetically and that is tuned in unison as well as the cylindrical soundboard and angle cut hammers, created a unique voice for the Bluthner instrument. In addition to the Bluthner brand, Bluthner manufactures two other brands: Haessler for the mid-level market and Irmler for the entry-level market Bluthner is one of the ‘big 3’ when it comes to pianos produced in Germany along with C. Bechstein, Bosendorfer and Steinway & Sons. Composers who used Bluthner pianos includes Brahms, Debussy, Wagner, Strauss, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, and the Beatles.
