Art Deco was a response to the postwar demand for luxurious objects and fine craftsmanship and conveyed a sense of urgency and lightness in a modern world. Designers utilized lavish materials and traditional decorative techniques such as inlay and veneer on streamlined geometric forms. Design was simplified and stylized. Texture and embellishment came from contrasts in the materials used.
