World's Oldest, 1862, Steinway upright piano for sale with a polished, rosewood case carved, reverse scroll legs. Cabinet features openwork panels in an arabesque design. Exquisite antique styling. Piano has eighty-five notes and two pedals. The oldest surviving upright Steinway in the world, a unique collector's piece.
To celebrate the 150th anniversary of founding Steinway & Sons, a contest was held in 2003 named "Search for the Oldest Steinway". This piano was the winner of the upright piano category. This is Steinway's fifth upriight piano constructed at the New York factory. The instrument still has its original soundboard and strings. Hamemers and dampers were replaced at the Steinway factory in New York. A rare, historic piece in playable condition.
